Long recognized as one of the most prominent artists of Italy, the work of Michelangelo Buonarotti is found throughout Tuscany and predominately in Florence. 
It was named by the name of one of the owners. The sculpture is considered to be Michelangelo’s testament. Choosing an unusual pattern, he wanted to portray Jesus standing with the Mother supporting the effort of the dead body of her Son.
